Academics at The Honors College

The Al-Quds Bard Honors College for Liberal Arts and Sciences offers a four-year interdisciplinary curriculum that creatively combines the best traditions of the Palestinian and U.S. education systems and draws on progressive trends in contemporary education. Graduates receive a separate B.A. degree from Al-Quds University and Bard College.

The Al-Quds Bard Honors College employs student-centered methods of teaching in a curriculum that permits flexibility and encourages student choice of major and courses. The curriculum emphasizes the value and excellence of the social sciences and humanities, as well as the natural sciences and the arts and their interconnection. It promotes active learning, independent thinking, critical inquiry, and the free exchange of ideas.

Courses that students take in their first two years of study are offered exclusively for Honors College students. In the last two years of study, students have the possibility of taking courses offered in other parts of Al-Quds University, in addition to classes offered exclusively for Honors College students.

During their second year of study, all students undergo a process of Moderation through which they select their academic major in consultation with, and with the approval of three faculty members, who advise them in this process. During their senior year, students spend a year working with a faculty mentor to prepare a Senior Project in their major field of study. Senior Projects vary, and may consist of 80-100 page theses, scientific research, translation, art shows or performances.

Courses are taught in English, and faculty members emphasize oral and written expression along with mastery of the material.
