The Program
Orientation
Bard College provides a comprehensive orientation for all students participating in the Al-Quds Bard Study Abroad Program. The program will begin with a pre-departure workshop at Bard College in upstate New York.
The pre-departure workshop at Bard will include: community-building activities; discussions of participant expectations; program policies and guidelines; academic and behavioral expectations; cross-cultural engagement strategies; and travel preparation tips.
Students will also participate in an intensive orientation upon arrival in Palestine. During this orientation, students have a chance to become even more familiar with the Al-Quds Bard Program and begin their cultural and social immersion into Palestinian life. A variety of practical topics will be covered such as: an overview of program staff, faculty, and campus facilities; a further overview of program policies, guidelines, and expectations; visa requirements; tips for stay health and safe in Palestine; getting involved (student life, cultural activities, and internships); and practicalities (transportation, money, banking, internet, cell phones, etc.)
Pre-Departure Advising
Program staff at the Institute for International Liberal Education (IILE) at Bard College manage the recruitment, enrollment, and pre-departure process. This advising and assistance includes advising on academic course choices, arranging important logistics, helping students prepare for traveling to and living in Palestine, and handling billing and other financial issues.
Students considering the Al-Quds Bard Study Abroad Program are strongly encouraged to be in touch with us at alquds-abroad@bard.edu for an advising session prior to starting an application.
