Admission
Eligibility
For the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 programs, admission to the program is limited primarily to students attending Bard College. Some exceptions may apply. Admission to will open to students from other colleges and universities in North America starting with the 2012-2013 academic year. If you are a non-Bard student and you are interested in receiving additional information on this program, please fill out our interest form.
At the time of application, students must be in good academic standing. Most students typically participate in study abroad during their junior year. Students from a diversity of academic disciplines are invited to apply. Arabic language is not a pre-requisite for admission.
Applications from students who fall into any of the following categories are particularly encouraged:
- Students who have taken courses and/or are majoring in Middle Eastern Studies;
- Students possessing one year of college-level Arabic or more;
- Students who have taken courses in and/or are majoring in human rights, social justice, and peace studies;
- Students who bring a diverse perspective to the program; and/or
- Students of Palestinian and Arab descent.
Given that this is a new program located in a challenging region of the world, students must also be able to demonstrate that they possess all of the following qualities:
- A high level of emotional and psychological maturity;
- The ability to remain flexible and patient in the face of ambiguity;
- Cross-cultural sensitivity and tolerance; and
- A willingness to provide feedback and input to strengthen the program for future participants.
